Ex-Man Utd Star Tips Chelsea for Premier League Glory

Former Manchester United attacker, Louis Saha has said he loved the way Chelsea played in their 3-2 victory over Fulham on Monday.

Following the Blues’ performance, Saha suggested that Xabi Alonso’s team has the potential to win the Premier League title, drawing on the manager’s success in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

The Blues played Fulham at Craven Cottage in their first game of the 2026-27 Premier League season on Monday.

They held 38% possession and made 18 attempts, with six of those on target. In contrast, the Cottagers also managed six shots on target from a total of 14 attempts.

The west London team won 3-2 in an exhilarating match, and following the game, Saha commended Alonso and Chelsea, telling Mr Gamble via Tribal Football.

He said, “I believe Xabi Alonso can lead Chelsea to the title this season. The players possess the talent necessary for him to construct a formidable team, and we witnessed his managerial capabilities at Bayer Leverkusen.

“I truly love the style he implemented there. They played with high pressing but also maintained control in midfield, making them a joy to watch.

“I sincerely hope they can establish the stability that Alonso requires in midfield with Moises Caicedo and other exceptional players, as they are indeed talented but prone to errors.

“They lack the composure essential in these positions, and their positioning can sometimes be inconsistent. They commit numerous mistakes at critical moments, resulting in losses in matches they ought to have won. I trust that Xabi Alonso can address this issue, as he understands what it takes to manage a midfield effectively,” he added.

In their Premier League opener, the Blues deployed Reece James and Romeo Lavia in a two-man midfield, with Moises Caicedo sidelined due to injury.
