The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has expressed confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will publish the name of its governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The opposition party gave the assurance following the omission of Adebutu’s name from INEC’s released list of candidates for the forthcoming election.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the Ogun State PDP urged residents to remain calm, insisting that Adebutu would emerge as the next governor of the state after the 2027 general elections.
The party attributed the omission to what it described as undue pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the development was motivated by fears that the PDP could win the governorship election.
According to the PDP, the ruling party was attempting to influence the electoral process because of its concerns about Adebutu’s electoral prospects.
The party, however, maintained that Adebutu remained a bona fide member of the PDP and had complied with the requirements of its digital membership registration exercise.
It stated that the governorship candidate had never left the party and registered within the stipulated period.
The PDP further claimed that Adebutu’s membership card had been printed, verified and submitted to INEC within the designated timeframe.
Based on these claims, the party expressed optimism that INEC would eventually publish Adebutu’s name on the list of candidates for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
Ogun PDP Urges Residents to Remain Calm
The opposition party called on the people of Ogun State not to be distracted by the development, urging them to remain focused on the goal of voting out the APC in the forthcoming election.
The PDP described itself as resolute and confident in Adebutu’s chances, insisting that the omission of his name would not diminish its determination to contest the governorship election.
It also declared that attempts to frustrate its candidate would not change what it described as the mandate of the people of Ogun State.
The statement read in part that no amount of political manipulation, alleged witch-hunts or calculated distractions could alter the will of the electorate.
The party urged its supporters, members and the general public to remain steadfast, vigilant and unintimidated as it continued its campaign to take over the state government and provide relief to residents.
2027 Ogun Governorship Election: PDP Maintains Confidence
The development adds to the political tension surrounding preparations for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, with the PDP maintaining that Adebutu remains its candidate despite his reported omission from INEC’s list.
The party’s position is that Adebutu fulfilled the relevant membership registration requirements and that his name should be included in the official list.
However, the PDP’s allegations against the APC and its expectation that INEC will publish Adebutu’s name remain the party’s claims. The commission’s position on the specific allegations was not included in the statement provided.
As preparations for the 2027 election continue, attention will be on INEC’s response and any further clarification regarding the status of the PDP candidate.
For now, the Ogun State PDP has urged its members and supporters to remain calm while reaffirming its determination to challenge the APC at the polls.
