2027 Election: Makinde Tells Nigerians to Judge Tinubu by Electricity Promise

The Governor of Oyo State and 2027 presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to assess President Bola Tinubu’s performance based on his promise to address the country’s persistent electricity challenges ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde called on Nigerians to consider the state of the power sector when deciding which candidate to support in the forthcoming general elections, stressing that the government’s performance should influence voters’ decisions.

The governor made the remarks on Saturday at the APM North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where party leaders, stakeholders and candidates gathered to discuss strategies for the 2027 general elections.

Makinde recalled Tinubu’s pledge to resolve Nigeria’s electricity problems within four years, arguing that Nigerians should evaluate the President’s performance against that commitment.

He challenged voters to consider whether the administration had delivered on its promise and make their electoral decisions with the future of younger generations in mind.

“So if electricity is not fixed by now then you (Nigerians) know where you will cast your votes for a better future of our younger generation,” Makinde said.

The Oyo State governor urged Nigerians to look beyond political affiliations and judge the government based on its achievements, particularly in addressing challenges affecting households, businesses and the country’s economic development.

Electricity supply remains a major concern for Nigerians, with reliable power widely regarded as essential for economic growth, industrial productivity and improved living standards.

Makinde’s comments come as political parties and prospective candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with electricity, economic conditions and governance expected to feature prominently in political discussions.

Bala Mohammed Calls for Support for APM

Also speaking at the town hall meeting, the APM’s national leader and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, commended party members and stakeholders for their support and for welcoming Makinde to the North-East.

Mohammed described the APM as a credible political platform capable of contributing to solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

He also urged Nigerians to support the party and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting formed part of the party’s engagement with stakeholders in the North-East as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.

With the 2027 presidential election approaching, Makinde’s remarks place renewed emphasis on electricity supply as an issue voters may use to evaluate the performance of the Tinubu administration and assess the alternatives offered by opposition parties.
