The Edo State Special Security Squad, operating under the code name Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, has recovered firearms and ammunition during a series of stop-and-search operations in the state.
Naija News reports the move comes as investigations continue into a recent killing in Oredo Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Patrick Ebojele, the operation focused on key locations, including Iriri off Airport Road and the Oluku axis.
Officers discovered an abandoned vehicle containing weapons after its occupants fled upon spotting security personnel.
The incident that sparked the crackdown occurred early Friday morning, February 13, 2026, at Eboh Quarters, Estate Gate in Oredo.
The victim, identified as Mr Courage, also known as “Dogo,” was killed during a dispute over park ticketing activities.
Investigators confirmed that the attack was not related to cultism, but followed disagreements over illegal ticketing and alleged mismanagement of proceeds.
Investigators recovered a 9mm Beretta pistol and spent cartridges at the scene. The killing also led to a retaliatory attack at Wire Road when some individuals wrongly accused others of being involved.
Several suspects have been arrested and are cooperating with authorities, providing information that may lead to more arrests. The Edo State Government has reiterated its strong position against cultism and kidnapping.
