Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has said that the recent adoption of electronic transmission of election results does not automatically ensure free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.
Speaking onSunrise Dailyon Channels Television, Sani stressed that while electronic systems can improve transparency, those intent on rigging can still circumvent safeguards.
He said: “The system alone will not prevent manipulation. Even with laws against inducement, voters can still be bribed, and we lack the manpower to monitor every location.”
The Senate had on Tuesday approved electronic transmission of results under the Amended Electoral Act, retaining manual collation as a backup.
