“After Osoba, I’m Next in Ogun APC” — Amosun Declares

Former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Sunday, declared himself the next most prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state after Chief Olusegun Osoba, another former governor in the state.

Amosun insisted that his place in the party’s history and structure cannot be wished away.

He spoke at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta, while addressing APC leaders, supporters and well-wishers during activities marking his 68th birthday.

Daily Trust reports that Amosun has remained silent on Ogun State politics after the 2023 election, when he backed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Biyi Otegbeye, against the APC’s candidate, Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The frosty relationship between Abiodun and Amosun has persisted, leaving the ruling party divided into factions within the state.

Speaking on Sunday, Amosun reaffirmed his membership of the ruling party, saying he remains one of the founding leaders of the APC in Ogun State.

“In this Ogun State, how can anyone talk about APC without talking about Amosun and all of us? With all due respect to our leaders and elders, when we were forming APC, if you mention someone in the forefront, that person is Chief Osoba. After Chief Osoba, who is next? It’s me,” he said.
