Bauchi APC Breaks Silence on Defections, Says Party Is Unshaken

Published

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has dismissed concerns over the defection of some of its members to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The party insisted that it remains united, strong and well-positioned for the 2027 general elections.

DAILY POST had reported a political tension in Bauchi State as Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) just days after stepping down from the APC governorship primary. https://dailypost.ng/2026/07/10/bauchi-apc-governorship-candidate-sacks-campaign-coordinators-in-20-lgas/

Other top politicians in the party including Samaila Kaila Dahuwa, Rabilu Bala Kashuri, Shehu Aliyu Musa also resigned from the APC with their supporters.

But in a statement on Thursday signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Shehu Dauda Mohammed, the APC said while every individual has the right to choose a political party, the exit of a few members should not be misrepresented as a sign that the party is losing strength or influence in the state.

“The departure of a handful of persons should not be exaggerated into evidence of the weakening of the APC or presented as proof of a change in the political direction of Bauchi State,” the statement said.

“A political party is not defined by the movement of a few individuals. Its strength is measured by the resilience of its structures, the reach of its grassroots organisation, the commitment of its members and its continuing connection with the people,” it stated.

According to the APC, the members who left had long distanced themselves from the party’s collective decisions, discipline and political direction.

The statement added that their formal exit only confirmed what had already become obvious.

The party maintained that the defections did not represent the movement of its structure or any significant shift in its support base.

“The departure of a few disgruntled individuals cannot be mistaken for the movement of the people,” the statement added.

The APC further said its structures remain active across all 20 local government areas and 323 wards of Bauchi State.

It said its focus is to secure Bauchi State for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reclaim the Government House from the opposition and win seats in the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly and other elective positions in the 2027 polls.

The party called on its members and supporters to remain united and continue engaging with people at the grassroots.
