BREAKING: Abbas Casts Doubt on Eisenkot’s Bid to Form Minority Government With Arab Party Support

According to a report by Times Of Israel on Thursday October 29, 2026, Ra’am party leader Mansour Abbas is reportedly pessimistic about the possibility of forming a minority government under Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot with support from Arab parties, according to Channel 12 News.

Abbas is said to have shared his doubts during a meeting with members of his party, expressing reservations about whether such an arrangement could realistically be established.

The reported assessment comes after the bloc of Jewish-led parties opposing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to secure an outright parliamentary majority in the recent election.

With the anti-Netanyahu camp short of the numbers required to govern independently, the prospect of relying on Arab-majority parties for outside support has emerged as a potential route to forming a government.

However, Abbas’s reported position suggests that securing such an arrangement could prove difficult, raising further questions about the opposition bloc’s ability to assemble a viable governing coalition.

According to Channel 12, The Democrats party is the only party within the Jewish-led opposition bloc that has expressed openness to including Arab-majority parties in the political arrangement.

The possibility of a minority government would require sufficient parliamentary backing from parties outside the governing coalition, even if those parties did not formally join the government.

Abbas’s reported doubts highlight the challenges facing efforts to replace Netanyahu’s government, particularly given the opposition’s failure to win a majority and the limited willingness among its members to cooperate with Arab parties.

The situation leaves the future of coalition negotiations uncertain, with the ability of Eisenkot and his allies to secure external support likely to be a key factor in determining whether an alternative government can be formed.
