BREAKING: Appeal Court affirms death sentence of Ramon Adedoyin over OAU student’s murder

The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence handed to Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a hotelier, for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the earlier judgment by the Osun State High Court, which found Adedoyin guilty and sentenced him to death.

The case dates back to November 2021, when Adegoke, traveling from Abuja, lodged at Adedoyin’s Hilton Hotels and Resorts in Ile-Ife, Osun State, to prepare for his examinations at OAU’s Distance Learning Centre in Moro.

However, he went missing and was later found buried in a shallow grave after a police investigation.

“The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death,” the appellate court’s judgement read.

It further noted that the “Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”
