On Thursday, January 16, 2025, operatives from the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) descended upon a notorious cybercrime training centre (commonly known as HK) in Benin City, Edo State, apprehending 25 suspected internet fraudsters.
The suspects were caught red-handed in their hideout, following credible intelligence that pinpointed the premises as a front for a “yahoo academy,” where aspiring cybercriminals were groomed for nefarious online activities.
Among the extensive haul, law enforcement recovered six luxury vehicles, along with a trove of laptops and mobile phones, tools of the trade for these digital con artists.
As the investigation unfolds, the suspects are set to face the law, with charges as soon as the facts are fully gathered, the anti-graft commission said in a post published on their official X account.
