Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), has claimed that the recent cyberattack on his social media platform had digital traces originating from Ukraine.

On Monday, thousands of users reported issues accessing X, with many receiving error messages stating, “Something went wrong. Try reloading.” Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, recorded over 40,000 complaints of disruptions.

In a post on X, Musk described the attack as “well-coordinated and possibly state-backed.”He speculated that a large group or a nation-state could have been behind it.

“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved,” Musk wrote.

During an interview with Fox Business, the billionaire reiterated his claims, suggesting that the cyberattack had links to Ukraine.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try and bring down the X system, with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” Musk said.

Musk has been a vocal critic of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, previously accusing him of prioritizing political and financial interests over peace. However, his latest claim about Ukrainian involvement in the X attack has not been independently verified.

X has suffered similar disruptions in the past. Last year, the platform experienced a major crash, which Musk initially attributed to a “massive DDoS attack.” However, a source at X later told The Verge that no such attack had occurred.

The timing of the outage comes following other setbacks for Musk’s business empire. On March 7, a SpaceX rocket exploded mid-flight, scattering debris near the Bahamas. Meanwhile, Tesla is facing increasing public backlash, with some owners staging protests and even dumping their vehicles in frustration.
