Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed speculation about his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his commitment to the ruling party.
In a statement posted on his X page on Monday, Fayemi emphasised that he remains a foundation member of the APC, while also advocating for greater internal democracy and inclusion within the party.
“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress APC,” he wrote.
“As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC and this position has not changed.”
He added, “While I have been at the vanguard of demand for greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is still not late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”
His denial follows growing rumours on social media suggesting that several APC chieftains may follow former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, who officially defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday.
