Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has joined Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season, the Championship club confirmed on Monday evening via its official website.
The 28-year-old striker makes the move after a difficult spell at Sevilla, where he struggled for regular game time since joining the Spanish club in August 2024. In six months at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Iheanacho managed only 11 appearances, scoring three goals.
He had initially signed a two-year contract with the Andalusian club after leaving Leicester City as a free agent in June 2024. However, his time in Spain has not gone as planned, prompting a return to England, where he first made a name for himself as a teenage sensation with Manchester City.
Iheanacho previously won the League Cup with City before transferring to Leicester in 2017. Now, he joins a Middlesbrough side currently sitting seventh in the English Championship with 44 points from 29 matches, just one spot outside the playoff positions.
As Boro push for promotion to the Premier League, Iheanacho will be hoping to rediscover his best form and make a significant impact in the remainder of the season.
