The Lagos State Government is set to re-arraign convicted kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before Justice Adenike Coker today.
He will face an amended five-count charge related to murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
Evans, who has been convicted in multiple kidnapping and armed robbery cases, is already serving time following two separate convictions.
In February 2022, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment for the abduction of Chief Donatus Dunu, the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Later, in September 2022, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (now retired) handed him a 21-year jail term for kidnapping businessman Chief Sylvanus Ahamonu and extorting $420,000 as ransom from his family.
Despite these convictions, Evans is still on trial for two other kidnapping cases.
His latest court appearance was delayed on October 10, 2024, due to the absence of his lawyer.
There are strong indications that Evans may plead guilty to the fresh charges, as the prosecution previously informed the court that he had applied for a plea bargain.
