The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has reaffirmed its commitment to safety by swiftly addressing a dangerously installed dredging pipe that posed a major threat to ferry operators and waterway users along the Ikorodu power line route.
The obstruction, discovered in the early hours of Tuesday, March 11, 2025, had hindered the movement of two passenger ferries and caused damage to their hulls, raising serious safety concerns. Upon receiving reports, LASWA’s patrol team promptly conducted an on-site inspection and took decisive action by installing marker buoys to guide vessels safely through the affected area.
This rapid response prevented a potential catastrophe and highlighted LASWA’s dedication to monitoring and managing the waterways to avert accidents.
The agency has urged dredging companies and marine operators to strictly adhere to safety and environmental regulations to prevent similar hazards.
LASWA also called on stakeholders, including boat operators and waterfront communities, to collaborate in maintaining safe and navigable waterways, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring the safety of all waterway users.
