BREAKING: NECO Announces Indefinite Postponement of 2024 Staff Promotion Examination

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially declared the indefinite postponement of its 2024 staff promotion examination.

This announcement was made by the national examination body through a letter dated February 9, 2024, and signed by Azeez Sani, the acting director of the Directorate of Information and Digital Communication.

Initially, Minna in Niger State was designated to host the promotion examination on February 14 and 15, 2024.

However, NECO has now informed all employees who were scheduled for promotions this year that the process has been put on hold.

The postponement is a direct result of a recent development on Wednesday, when the House of Representatives instructed the Committees on Education, Examination Board, and Basic Education to engage with NECO regarding the upcoming promotion examination for approximately 1,500 employees.

Akeem Adeyemi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized the risks associated with forcing 1,500 employees to travel from various parts of the country to a single location for a promotion exam, given the prevailing security situation and economic hardship affecting all citizens.

Sani, in acknowledgment of the Green Chamber’s resolution, said, “The Management of the National Examinations Council, NECO, has announced the indefinite postponement of the 2024 Staff Promotion Examination.”

He further clarified, “The postponement is in compliance with the directive of the Committee on Basic Examination Bodies of the House of Representatives as contained in a letter referenced NASS/HR/10/CT.20/64 dated 9th February 2024 and signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji.”

“With this development, all NECO staff who are due for promotion this year should note that the exercise has been put on hold indefinitely,” Sani concluded.
