BREAKING: PDP Govs, Oyinlola, Ibadan Chiefs, others condole Makinde over brother’s death

Condolences continue to pour in for Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, following the passing of his eldest brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde.

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF), former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the PDP National Secretariat, and key Ibadan chiefs, including those from the Iyalode Olubadan Line, visited the grieving governor to express their sympathies.

This was contained in a statement signed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to Oyo State Governor, on Wednesday.

Among the groups that visited the governor were the Ibadan Ajorosun Club, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide (Oyo State chapter), the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), all of whom offered their heartfelt condolences.

The delegation from the PDP Governors’ Forum was led by its Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who was joined by his counterparts from Rivers, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and Osun State, Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke.

The governors visited the Ikolaba residence of Governor Makinde on Wednesday, offering words of solace and praying for the strength of the Makinde family during this difficult time.

Governor Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the forum, expressed sympathy for the loss, noting that while Governor Makinde is known for his resilience, the loss of his brother was significant.

He further praised Governor Makinde for his contributions to Nigeria’s development and for his leadership as a governor in the PDP.

Governor Makinde, in his response, thanked the visiting leaders for their support, acknowledging the grief felt by his family and the Oyo State community. While accepting the loss with faith in God’s will, he shared that his brother’s passing at the age of 65, just when he was about to enjoy the fruits of his labor, was deeply painful.

He also appreciated the gesture of solidarity, especially the presence of Governor Fubara, highlighting the importance of unity beyond political differences.

Other PDP leaders who attended the condolence visit included Deputy National Chairman (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, Chief Mrs. Mutiat Ladoja, and Chief Ali Odefa, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-East).

Prince Oyinlola, former Osun governor, and officials from the PDP National Secretariat, led by Engr. Gurama Bawa, also paid a visit, offering prayers for the Makinde family’s strength.
