However, authorities quickly secured the area to prevent people from attempting to collect the spilled fuel.

According to the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu, the accident happened when a Soroman DAF tanker (registration number KUJ 233 XC, Abuja), driven by Adamu Usman, lost control and collided with the back of another Iveco tanker (registration number NGL 259 XA, Yobe State) carrying diesel.

Both tankers were traveling in the same direction when the crash occurred.

The impact caused the Iveco tanker to tip over, leading to fuel spilling from both vehicles.

Upon receiving the report, the Fanisau Divisional Police Officer and his team arrived at the scene, secured the area, and redirected traffic to prevent further incidents.

The Federal and State Fire Services were called in to prevent a fire outbreak, while other security agencies, including the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), assisted in managing the situation and keeping residents away from the spill.

SP Shiisu reassured the public that there was no immediate danger and that the situation was under control.

This incident comes as a reminder of a tragic tanker explosion last year that claimed 200 lives and left many others injured.
