[BREAKING] Rivers Crisis: PDP NWC Members Visit Gov Fubara, Affirm His Leadership

In a decisive show of support, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rallied behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara following a controversial court ruling that nullified the party’s congresses in Rivers State.

During a visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday night, the NWC delegation, led by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, engaged in a closed-door meeting with the Governor, discussing the stormy waters of party politics in the state.

After the discussions, National Treasurer Ahmed Mohammed reaffirmed Governor Fubara’s status as the undeniable leader of the PDP in Rivers State.

“Our visit marks a crucial step in realigning the party and strategising for a triumphant return in the 2027 elections,” he declared, underscoring their commitment to fostering unity, stability, and effective repositioning within the state.

In a further display of solidarity, he voiced the NWC’s backing for Ude Okoye, recently reinstated as the party’s National Secretary by the Court of Appeal.

Mohammed called upon party stakeholders and governors to unite in support of Okoye for the advancement of the PDP’s agenda.

This visit follows a gathering of PDP Youth Leaders from across the nation, who sought to bolster Fubara’s leadership amidst ongoing internal strife within the party.

The court’s ruling, which invalidated the Ward, Local, and State congresses—previously dominated by allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike—has sent shockwaves through the party. These congresses were plagued by a tangle of conflicting court orders; while a State High Court sought to restrain the process, a Federal High Court permitted it.

In the wake of the nullification, an interim committee has sprung up, poised to oversee the party’s leadership in Rivers State as the PDP navigates through these turbulent times.
