A former senator representing Sokoto East, Abubakar Gada, has left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just months after joining the ADC coalition.
Gada announced his decision at the end of a consultative meeting held in Sokoto, saying the move followed extensive consultations with political allies, stakeholders, and grassroots leaders across the state.
He said his return to the PDP was informed by developments within the ADC coalition, which, according to him, exposed internal structural and leadership challenges that weakened the platform’s effectiveness in the state.
Gada, who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 on the platform of the PDP, said the party remained a more structured and people-oriented platform for advancing the collective aspirations of Sokoto State.
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, grassroots empowerment, constructive political engagement, and the pursuit of good governance, pledging to work with others to promote unity, sustainable development, and shared prosperity.
Meanwhile, participants at the meeting, including Alhaji Hamza Gatawa, Hajiya Maryam Gade, and Alhaji Tambari Tambuwal, commended Gada’s decision, describing it as a courageous step toward strengthening a viable political movement aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

“I have played a leading and instrumental role in the conception, promotion, and stabilisation of the ADC coalition movement in Sokoto state.
I also invested considerable time, energy, and political capital in building what was envisioned as a credible political alternative driven by the collective aspirations of the people.
I leverage on modern communication tools and social media platforms to expand awareness and participation.
It is in this spirit I brought the Northwest coalition representative, Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i, to Sokoto state to engage with diverse political stakeholders in the state.
I formally align with the PDP, a platform I consider more structured, credible, and people-oriented for advancing the collective aspirations of Sokoto state.
The development was as result of statewide town hall engagements, strategic grassroots consultations, and high-level political interactions aimed at strengthening unity, coordination, and public confidence in the PDP.”
