BREAKING: Senator Akobundu Assures Senate’s Intervention in Abia, Akwa Ibom States Border Clash

Senator Austin Akobundu, representing the Abia Central senatorial district, has called upon the people of Ariam Eleuelu in Ariam Usaka, Ikwuano LGA, Abia State, and the residents of Obot Akara community in Akwa Ibom State to put aside their differences and embrace peace. He promised to leverage all his influence to ensure that the 10th Senate intervenes and finds a lasting resolution to the ongoing border disputes.

The senator made this call on Sunday night, following the latest incident in the protracted crisis, which claimed another life and resulted in the destruction of properties valued at millions of naira.

Senator Akobundu pledged to raise the issue with the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, including Obot Akara LGA. He assured that he would table the matter before the Senate for urgent action to prevent further escalation and stressed that the Senate would do everything within its power to restore lasting peace in the affected regions.

Furthermore, Senator Akobundu urged all parties involved in the conflict to view each other as one community and coexist in the spirit of brotherhood and neighbourliness. He committed to collaborating with all relevant government agencies to promote peace and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

In expressing gratitude to the Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani, and other officials for their swift mobilisation of security forces in response to the recent violence, Senator Akobundu, a native of Ikwuano LGA, called on the governments of Abia and Akwa Ibom States to intensify efforts in engaging stakeholders towards restoring peace and providing relief materials to those affected. He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and extended his solidarity to the bereaved families and all those impacted by the conflict.
