According to a report by Vanguard Nigeria on Thursday, October 29, 2026, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the remand of Nollywood actress and African Action Congress governorship candidate in Abia State, Doris Ogala, over allegations involving Pastor Chris Okafor.
Ogala was reportedly taken to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre following an order by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Reacting in a statement shared on social media, Sowore said he “unequivocally condemns the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Tunji Disu, over its renewed attacks on Nigerians on behalf of influential figures.”
He accused the police of deepening the alleged weaponisation of the Cybercrimes Act and questioned the decision to turn what he described as a private dispute into a criminal case.
Sowore also expressed concern about the case being heard by Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to him, the handling of cases involving pastors has raised questions about judicial impartiality.
“The Nigeria Police Force has no business turning private relationships into criminal prosecutions or deploying the Cybercrimes Act as a weapon of intimidation,” he said.
The Federal Government filed charges against Ogala for alleged cyberstalking, cyber bullying, harassment and attempted extortion.
The prosecution accused her of publishing private photographs of Okafor without his consent and making damaging claims against him.
Ogala had previously missed two court appearances, with her lawyers citing health challenges. The court later adjourned her bail hearing until October 30, 2026.
Sowore insisted that Ogala deserved constitutional protection, due process and a fair hearing, adding, “This abuse must end.”
