BREAKING: Strike Looms In Top Northern Varsity As ASUU Tables Unresolved Welfare Issues

The Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said it would be embarking on a strike action in the institution on February 11.

Peter Adamu, the union’s chairman in Kaduna said the strike action would commence in the institution over series of unresolved issues of members’ welfare.

In a letter issued on Tuesday, February 4, and addressed to the national body for approval, Adamu accused the Kaduna State government of failing to respond to members’ grievances.

Some of the members’ demands include the nonpayment of five months’ salaries from May to September 2022, 60 per cent of September 2017 and other withheld salaries of academic staff.

Others are nonpayment of Earned Academic Allowance from 2015 to 2020, and Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme from 2016 to 2023 among several other demands.

Adamu highlighted that the union had sent out several letters to the Kaduna State governor without response on any of the issues raised.

For this, the union said it had no option but to proceed on an indefinite strike as an alternative means to press for the resolution of the outstanding welfare issues of its members.
