Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with South African side, Chippa United, after four years at the club, bringing an end to a significant spell that saw him rise to prominence as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Naija News reports that the club confirmed his departure in a statement issued on Thursday.
Chippa United disclosed that the Super Eagles shot-stopper personally requested to leave, despite having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024.
The club stated that it had accepted his request and granted him a release to pursue the next phase of his career.
It said, “We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
Chippa, however, did not indicate whether the 29-year-old goalkeeper had already secured a move to another club or would leave as a free agent.
Nwabali has yet to publicly comment on his departure or reveal his next career step.
Nevertheless, reports have linked him with potential moves within the South African Premier Soccer League, as well as possible transfers to clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia.
Nwabali joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2022 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.
He made over 70 appearances for the club and was appointed team captain in 2024, underscoring his leadership role and importance within the side.
During his time with Chippa, the goalkeeper’s profile rose significantly on the international stage. He became Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper following an impressive outing at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where his performances drew widespread acclaim.
