Controversy as Urhobo Father-in-Law Tells Bride to Forgive Cheating Husband

A video showing a traditional Urhobo marriage ritual has stirred widespread reactions on social media after an elder delivered culturally rooted marital advice to a bride during the ceremony.

The clip shows the bride dressed in a patterned traditional outfit performing ceremonial rites before elders and family members.

The event took place outdoors at the entrance of a family home, with elders wearing red caps, beads, and traditional robes.

The ritual involved bowing, presenting items, and other symbolic gestures signifying the bride’s formal acceptance into her husband’s family.

Elder’s advice to bride draws attention

During the ceremony, an elderly man, believed to be the father-in-law addressed the bride offering guidance on marriage, faithfulness, and cultural expectations.

He said, “My pikin, as you dey enter this our house today, you go be good wife. You go respect your husband, take care of am, born pikin for am.”

The elder went on to caution the bride on marital conduct, stating, “If your husband cheat on you, e fit happen, you go forgive am. No vex too much, no pack comot.”

Warnings on infidelity and ancestral consequences
