Davido Sends Strong Political Signal Despite Uncle’s Support for Tinubu

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he may not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 despite the endorsement of the president by his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido disclosed this during an interview with News Central TV, excerpts of which went viral on X on Tuesday.

The singer’s position comes days after Governor Adeleke, fresh from his victory in the Osun governorship election, renewed his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Davido said he was not under pressure to adopt the governor’s political position.

He said, “Immediately he won, my uncle came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but as for me, I am not propelled to support anybody.”

He added that he currently has no preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, although he backed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a previous contest.

“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change but it will not be APC,” the singer insisted.

In the same interview, Davido said he would still favour Tinubu’s chances of winning another term if opposition parties remain divided ahead of the 2027 election.

According to him, the lack of unity among opposition figures could make the president’s path to re-election easier.

He argued that several politicians, particularly from southern Nigeria, are already pursuing presidential ambitions instead of rallying around a common candidate.

Davido said a united opposition would be more capable of mounting a serious challenge against the incumbent president.

He also said the outcome of the recent Osun governorship election showed that there was still hope for greater political participation, especially among young Nigerians.
