The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Prince Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as “Okanga Mo,” in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.
Oloto, who was about 53 years old, was reportedly attacked inside his residence in the Odenigbo area of Nsukka on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
According to the police, officers received a report at about 5:45 p.m. that a man had been found in a pool of blood at the residence. Operatives who responded to the scene found Oloto with deep suspected machete cuts to his head and stomach.
The victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where an attending doctor confirmed him dead.
His remains were subsequently deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy as police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The Enugu State Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the investigation was ongoing and that a manhunt had been launched for the person or persons responsible for the attack.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of Ikechukwu Oloto, male, about 53 years old, in Nsukka,” Ndukwe said.
Initial reports circulating on social media alleged that Oloto was killed by unknown gunmen at his residence and claimed that he was brutally attacked with a knife. However, those specific claims have not been independently established.
The police have confirmed that Oloto sustained deep suspected machete wounds, but have not publicly identified the attacker or attackers, established a motive for the killing, or definitively stated what weapon was used.
Oloto, a native of Nsukka Local Government Area, was described in multiple reports as a prominent politician in the area.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible for his death as the police continue their manhunt.
