A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has spoken on the ongoing leadership tensions within the party and the choices facing key party members.
In an interview on Symfoni TV, Sani explained that Nyesom Wike appears cautious about taking the matter to the Supreme Court, understanding that a legal battle at the highest level could prolong the conflict and make it harder to resolve internal party issues.

He noted that the party currently does not have a fully recognized National Working Committee, which could complicate matters if court proceedings drag on, and could deepen divisions among members.
Despite the leadership uncertainties, Sani said that the PDP’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee remain active.
These bodies are handling the conflict, ensuring party rules are followed, and working to keep the party stable.
He argued that avoiding an immediate Supreme Court appeal allows leaders to focus on reconciliation, recruiting new members, and preparing for upcoming elections.
Sani added that choosing not to rush to the Supreme Court should be seen as a thoughtful political decision rather than a weakness.
Wike and other top PDP figures are focusing on dialogue, negotiation, and compromise to strengthen the party ahead of future political challenges.
He said: “Wike is saying we should not go to the Supreme Court because he knows the implications. Going down this route might prolong the conflict and make it harder to resolve internal issues within the party.”
