Ohanaeze, the apex Igbo socio- cultural organization, has urged the federal government to disregard the advice of a former presidential aspirant named Garba Adamu. Adamu proposed renaming the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) to Queen Elizabeth University of Nigeria in honor of the late monarch.
Meanwhile, it is important to know that Friday, Garba raised a suggestion on Friday, that the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari should honor Queen Elizabeth II by renaming Nigeria University, Nsukka after Queen Elizabeth, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 96.
Garba said, ” To immortalize Queen Elizabeth, we should rename the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to Queen Elizabeth University of Nigeria since it is the first University in Nigeria.
Immortalizing Queen Elizabeth by renaming the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in her honor would’ ve been an easier deal if I were communicating with our grandparents. Fortunately, they knew her worth. Age is a grace, & 7 decades on the Throne can only be the work of God and Grace. ”
However, in response to Adamu’ s suggestion, the secretary- general of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, released a statement on Friday, in which he urged Adamu to apologize to Ndigbo for making such a statement.
