The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed that a total of 15 suspects have been arrested in connection with the unfortunate Ozoro ‘rape festival’ which took place in Delta State.
The confirmation was given on Saturday by the Force New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, in a short statement via his account.
He also assured that investigations remain ongoing on the incident and justice will be served.
“As stated, a total of 15 suspects have been arrested. This development reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring justice.
“Investigations remain ongoing,” he wrote.
Naija News recalls that the Delta State Police Command had earlier arrested five persons, including the community head and chief organiser of the sexual molestation of women during the annual festival in Ozoro community.
The arrests came hours after Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered a full investigation of the viral videos showing groups of young men attacking women during the festival, forcefully tearing their clothes and subjecting them to various forms of molestation.
In an update on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the command, Bright Edafe, in a post on , identified the community head and chief organiser of the event as Chief Omorede Sunday.
Edafe said the community head, alongside four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro, have been arrested.
Edafe added that Adesola, had ordered their immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and vowed that those involved would be brought to justice.
He wrote, “The community head and chief organiser of the event, one chief Omorede Sunday and four other suspects from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested. The CP has ordered that they should be transferred to the State CID with immediate effect. The CP vows that anyone involved will be arrested and brought to justice.”
Disturbing videos of a ‘raping festival’ in Ozoro, a community in Delta State, had gone viral on the internet.
Naija News learnt that several ladies were sexually molested by men who attacked them during the ‘raping festival’on Thursday, March 19.
According to reports, the community holds a festival in March every year in which ladies are barred from being seen in public and any lady who fails to remain indoors is molested by the men holding the festival.
Videos shared online showed several young men running towards any lady they see on the road, ripping their clothes off and molesting them.
