You can typically recognize insomnia by the following symptoms:

1. Waking too early and finding yourself unable to fall back asleep

2. Spending a lot of the night lying awake, worrying you won’t fall asleep

3. Consistent pattern of interrupted or broken sleep that doesn’t refresh you

4. Trouble falling asleep after going to bed
Prevention

1. Avoid going to bed hungry.

2. Have a healthy snack before bed, if necessary.

3. Avoid eating a heavy meal within 2–3 hours of going to bed.

4. Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, especially at night.

5. Have a healthful, varied diet to boost overall well-being.
