Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has inaugurated the Bola Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council in the state, bringing together members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the International Convention Centre in Awka on Sunday, Soludo urged members of both parties to unite and intensify grassroots mobilisation to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The governor described political alignment with the Federal Government as being in the best interest of the South-East, arguing that strategic collaboration with the centre would enhance the region’s political relevance and development.
The event attracted candidates and key stakeholders from both parties, serving and former members of the National Assembly and the Anambra State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, and political leaders from the state’s 21 local government areas.
Soludo Calls for Grassroots Mobilisation
Addressing the gathering, Soludo urged members of the South-East to join what he described as the progressive movement, emphasising that cooperation with the Federal Government was necessary to secure the region’s position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He said the campaign should focus on grassroots mobilisation, particularly at ward and polling-unit levels, while calling on party members to work collectively towards Tinubu’s re-election.
“We must work together for the re-election of the President. This is a journey that is for everybody in the region with one objective, which is to get Mr President re-elected. It is an inclusive journey, and everybody is welcome. It is ‘progressives working together’,” the governor said.
Soludo described Tinubu as a democrat who believes in cooperation among progressive political forces, urging APGA and APC members to translate their political alignment into coordinated campaign activities.
He also criticised opposition political arguments, maintaining that the campaign should focus on promoting the administration’s policies and achievements rather than engaging in personal attacks.
The governor said Anambra was joining the movement to demonstrate that progressive political parties could work together towards a common objective.
Governor Urges South-East to Support Tinubu in 2027
Soludo called on residents of Anambra and the wider South-East to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, urging voters to turn out in large numbers across the state’s 21 local government areas during the 2027 presidential election.
He recalled that the South-East did not give Tinubu significant electoral support in the 2023 presidential election but argued that the President had continued to implement policies and projects that could benefit the region.
According to the governor, the South-East should not miss the opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the Federal Government through political cooperation.
“We are here working for the re-election of a President who has done so well for the South-East because we believe in him. We believe in his reformation agenda, and we believe that he is what Nigeria needs at this point,” Soludo said.
He attributed what he described as improved economic stability, increased federal allocations, infrastructure development and investment prospects to Tinubu’s economic reforms.
The governor maintained that closer cooperation between Anambra State and the Federal Government would help accelerate development and improve the region’s access to major infrastructure projects.
Soludo Links Federal Partnership to Infrastructure Development
The Anambra governor said large-scale infrastructure projects, including railways, gas pipelines and other critical facilities, would require collaboration between state and federal authorities.
He argued that the financial resources available to state governments alone were insufficient to deliver some of the major projects needed to transform the South-East.
“All the projects we are talking about, like the railways, gas pipeline and critical infrastructure, the state government’s money cannot do it; therefore, we need partnership with the Federal Government,” he said.
Soludo urged political leaders and residents of the region to embrace strategic cooperation with the Federal Government, describing such a relationship as critical to the South-East’s economic prospects and future political relevance.
He added that the region needed to position itself to benefit from national development initiatives by strengthening its engagement with the government at the centre.
APC, APGA Members to Form Joint Campaign Structure
The governor formally inaugurated the presidential campaign council after attendees sang Tinubu’s campaign slogan, “On the mandate we shall stand”.
Soludo disclosed that the full structure of the council, comprising members of both the APC and APGA, would be unveiled soon.
The development signals an effort to coordinate supporters of the two political parties in Anambra State ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The campaign council is expected to focus on mobilising support across the state’s 21 local government areas, with particular emphasis on ward-level organisation and polling-unit engagement.
Soludo’s call for cooperation reflects his position that a stronger relationship with the Federal Government could create opportunities for infrastructure investment, economic development and greater political participation for the South-East.
As political activities gradually build towards the 2027 general election, the joint campaign structure will seek to consolidate support for Tinubu in a region where the President faced significant electoral opposition in 2023.
