Niger Republic Will Defend Me If Anybody Moves Against Me In Nigeria, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he would run to neighbouring Niger Republic to seek a safe haven if disturbed or there is trouble after he leaves office on May 29, 2023.

President Buhari who spoke on Tuesday during the inauguration of the N19.6 billion Nigeria Customs Service Corporate headquarters in Abuja, said, “I try to plan to be as far away from Abuja as possible. I came from an area which is far away from Abuja.”

Although, he said he would prefer to stay in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, however, “if anybody with force moves, I have good relationship with my neighbours. Niger people will defend me.”

Buhari revealed that the first official trip he made when he assumed office as Nigeria’s President was to visit the Niger Republic, Chad and Cameroon to cement the country’s relationship with them, The Sun reports.

The retired Major General, who ruled Nigeria as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985 and returned in 2015 as a democratically elected president, said Niger Republic is closer to his hometown than Abuja, Nigeria’s capital territory.

“I said these few things about my personal belief because I have only six more days to go,” he said.

He added, “That is why when I became the Head of State that is President, my first visit was to Niger, Chad and Cameroon because based on neighbourhood on personal and national reason. If you don’t secure the confidence of your neighbour, you are in trouble.

“If you are not in trouble, your children and grandchildren will be in trouble.

100K Jobs Coming From Our Refinery—Aliko Dangote

Amid encomnums from eminent personalities, including President Muhammadu Buhari and presidents of five other African countries, founder and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, yesterday expressed optimism that the newly commissioned 650,000pbd refinery would employ over 100,000 Nigerian youths and generate over $21 billion in revenue.

According to him, this will save the country huge forex that would have been spent on fuel importation.

Seun Kuti Released On Bail

Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has been released on Tuesday night on bail, from the detention of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos.

The development was confirmed by his attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday night.

“Yes, Ṣeun Kuti was released minutes ago,” he said.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Afrobeat musician may be released today (Tuesday) following the expiration of the extension of his remand in police custody, court documents obtained by The PUNCH revealed that the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, extended Kuti’s remand until Tuesday, May 23.

The document shows that a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State last week Thursday granted an application by the police for an extension of remand of Seun Kuti until Tuesday (today), to enable the police to conclude its investigation, and for the advice of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The police had told the court that the two days remand extension that was earlier granted was not enough for it to conclude its investigation.

Responding to the police’ application, the magistrate said, “I will grant the extension. Matter adjourned to May 23, 2023, for DPP’s advice,” the document exclusively obtained by our correspondent on Monday revealed.
