The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of being obsessed with him instead of focusing on governance.
Wike made the remark on Tuesday night while speaking on Arise News Prime Time, in response to APC governors, led by their chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who had earlier said they would not participate in, support or endorse any alliance that could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid or affect APC candidates at any level.
Wike, in the interview dismissed the concerns, arguing that his decision to support Tinubu did not mean he had abandoned his political party or agreed that other parties should not field candidates.
“Anytime Governor AbdulRazaq of Kwara State sees a snake, it’s Wike. He sees a reptile, it’s Wike. He doesn’t eat any day, it’s Wike. Why?” Wike asked.
“I’ve never seen people who give time to gossip other than doing the work they’re given,” he added.
The FCT Minister also defended the PDP’s decision to give return tickets to three serving senators and some House of Representatives members who were allegedly denied tickets by Governor AbdulRazaq.
“Instead of them joining the ADC or NDC, we, the PDP that is supporting the President, gave them tickets,” he said.
“If they had gone to ADC or NDC, would they still support President Tinubu? When you have local problems, don’t use President Tinubu’s name to cover up.”
Recall that it was reported in late August and early September 2026 how
APC Governors, led by Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum) and Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, went to President Tinubu to complain that Wike was sponsoring candidates against their preferred choices in Kwara and taking over APC structures with his Rainbow Coalition.
In his response, Wike then went public during a media chat in Port Harcourt monitored on Wednesday, September 2 2026, where he first named the two governors.
He said: “Take, for example, Kwara; he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too.”
Wike, during the Arise News Prime Time interview on Tuesday night, still accused the APC governors when he said; “The problem we have in politics is to say that people can not say the truth, they wanted to give their candidates.”
The Minister maintained that the disagreements surrounding his political activities did not start with his decision to support Tinubu, recalling that he had faced opposition even when he was serving as governor of Rivers State and later as FCT Minister.
“This thing did not start today. It started at ministerial position. They were not happy that I was Minister of FCT. Also, they were unhappy when I was governor,” he said.
Turning to the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, Wike said: “Hope Uzodimma should be lucky that I’m not in the APC. Hope fears for nothing.
“When I look at the APC governors who held the press conference, I see some people who are smart but politically lazy. Hope Uzodinma was the governor of Imo State, yet President Tinubu could not secure 10% of the votes there.
“Hope in his own state, Imo state, he was Governor. President Tinubu didn’t get 10% votes in the 2023 elections, but he took two senators and Labour Party took one senator. Is he saying Imo people were confused, or were they not confused?
“The governors of Osun, Anambra and Abia States are supporting the President reelection. Won’t they still support the candidates of their parties in other elections? So where is the confusion?”
Wike, further accused some APC governors of trying to take credit for his victory in the FCT Area Council elections after earlier reporting him to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“APC governors earlier reported me to the President. Now that I won five out of six area councils in the FCT for the APC, they want to take credit,” he said.
The Minister stated that when he started mobilizing for the APC in the FCT, the governors were not happy with his involvement and took their complaints to the President.
According to him, the outcome of the council elections has vindicated him, as the party recorded a sweeping victory under his leadership in the Territory.
Wike, a chieftain of the PDP, said the party is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027 under his “Rainbow Coalition” despite being in the opposition, but not serving the interest of any group within the APC.
