The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders in Abia State have been conditioned to first secure their various polling units, wards, or constituencies during the 2027 elections, or they should abandon hopes for federal appointments.
The party leaders received the warning on Sunday, August 23, when the state APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, was addressing them at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, during a reconciliation meeting following the primary elections, Naija News understands.
He stressed that the party would closely evaluate the performance of its leaders and members in the upcoming 2027 elections, indicating that their dedication would be assessed based on the outcomes achieved in their individual areas.
Chukwu stated that the results from the polling units, wards, and constituencies of APC leaders and stakeholders would be published promptly after the elections, allowing the national leadership of the party to evaluate their performance.
The APC chairman also mentioned that the party is developing a system where political rewards will be based on the contributions and electoral success of its members.
He warned party leaders who rely on their connections in Abuja but fail to deliver electoral results that they should not expect federal appointments.
“Let me tell you, we are working out a modality where people will be rewarded according to their output. If you think you have contacts in Abuja and you lose your polling unit, ward and constituency, and you expect to be made a minister, it is impossible under this regime,” Chukwu said.
He added, “Immediately after this election, we will publish the polling units of all the leaders and stakeholders of the party.
“If you cannot win your polling unit, ward and constituency, you have no business being made a federal commissioner or a minister.
“Things must change, and we must follow a new order.”
The Abia APC chairman also called for unity and greater commitment among party members as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He urged House of Assembly candidates and other stakeholders not to put personal interests ahead of the party’s interests or work for rival political parties.
Chukwu said the party’s major objective was to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in Abia State in the 2027 elections.
He urged members to remain focused and work together to strengthen the party’s chances across the state.
Meanwhile, the Abia APC chairman has inaugurated a peace committee to reconcile aggrieved members following the party’s primary election.
The committee, headed by Madukwe Ukaegbu, is expected to engage members and work towards resolving disagreements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The move is aimed at ensuring that the party enters the election season with a united house and avoids internal divisions that could affect its electoral chances.
Speaking during the meeting, an APC member, Sam Anya, said the party had already put structures in place in Ohafia to deliver President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the state.
Anya expressed confidence that the structures being developed would help the party mobilise voters and secure victory in the 2027 elections.
