President Bola Tinubu has pledged to uphold the All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto and honour his commitments to the ruling party as he seeks re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu made the pledge on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Addressing party leaders and members, the president described himself as an “errand man” of the APC, assuring the party of his commitment to its objectives, promises and manifesto.
“To me, I am your errand man. Even for the president, I raise my hand for full commitment that we abide by my promises and the manifestos, the objective, the intention of our party. That’s all I give you,” he said.
The president also commended the APC for successfully conducting its congresses and electing leaders at the ward, local government, state and national levels, despite concerns that the exercise could trigger an internal crisis.
Tinubu recalled that the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting, held on December 19, 2025, ratified the programme for the congresses.
“We conducted it. They said there would be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You did not let us down,” the president said.
He praised party members for their participation, describing the APC as united and prepared for the next electoral contest.
According to Tinubu, the newly inaugurated campaign council is expected to take the party’s vision, record and agenda to Nigerians across the country.
“This council will carry our vision, our record and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to every ward of this country. We arrive at this moment strong, united and renewed,” he said.
Tinubu Urges APC Members to Deliver Wards and Votes in 2027
The president charged members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council to mobilise support in their respective wards and ensure that their campaign efforts translate into votes in the 2027 election.
Tinubu said the inauguration was more than the formal establishment of a campaign structure, describing it as a renewed commitment between the governing party and Nigerians.
“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council; we have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” he said.
While appreciating party members for their support during the previous presidential election, Tinubu warned that their work would not be complete until they delivered electoral victories in 2027.
“But no one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. So, until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you,” he said.
His remarks placed grassroots mobilisation at the centre of the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming general election, with party members expected to coordinate campaign activities across wards, local government areas and states.
Tinubu Says Governance Will Remain His Priority During Campaign
Tinubu also assured Nigerians that his responsibilities as president would remain a priority throughout the election campaign, stressing that political activities would not suspend the work of government.
He disclosed that party leaders had advised him against allowing the demands of campaigning to interfere with the administration’s responsibilities, a position he said he agreed with.
The president explained that while campaign council members would coordinate activities across states and local government areas, he would continue to engage Nigerians directly.
“Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.
Tinubu added that he would make time to address Nigerians even as party officials took charge of grassroots mobilisation and other campaign activities.
“However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas, so you will excuse me from going everywhere with you,” he said.
Tinubu Seeks Second Term in 2027
Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the APC and is seeking a second term in office in the 2027 general election.
His inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and appeal for grassroots mobilisation signal the party’s preparations for the next electoral contest.
The president’s pledge to honour the party’s manifesto, coupled with his demand for votes from party members, places both governance and electoral mobilisation at the centre of the APC’s message ahead of the 2027 polls.
