AFCON 2027: Chelle Drops Big Hint on 4 Players Who Could Join Super Eagles Squad

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has shed some light on his plans for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.

The three-time African champions begin their quest to qualify for the next AFCON tournament scheduled for Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. And their first games are just a few weeks away.

Nigeria face Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in their opening games of the series. So definitely, coach Chelle would have started compiling his squad list ahead of those fixtures.

Over the last few weeks, there has been speculation about the players who will be invited to the Super Eagles camp. And on Saturday, Chelle gave fans an idea of his plans.

The Franco-Malian tactician posted videos of Super Eagles stars who scored for their clubs, and although he did not add a caption, it might be an indication of his plans for September.

Who Are The 4 Non-Regulars Who Could Get Super Eagles Invites?

Eric Chelle posted a video of Victor Osimhen’s goal for Galatasaray against Erzurumspor on Friday. He also shared a clip of Semi Ajayi scoring against Manchester United for Hull City.

But these players are regulars for Nigeria, with Osimhen having 52 caps to his name, while 32-year-old Ajayi has 56 caps for the Super Eagles.

However, Chelle also shared videos of four other non-regulars. He posted Alhassan Yusuf, who scored a record-breaking hat-trick for his New England Revolution side. He also shared a clip of Chidera Ejuke’s goal for Sevilla against Athletic Bilbao.

George Ilenikhena was not left out, as the Franco-Malian tactician posted a picture of him scoring for Al Ittihad against Al Qadisiah.

He then shared a video of Kelechi Iheanacho’s latest goal for Bursaspor. Iheanacho has scored in three straight games for his new club, and that has definitely caught the eye.

These four players — Yusuf, Ilenikhena, Ejuke, and Iheanacho — are not regulars for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Yusuf has just ten caps to his name, Ejuke has 14, and Iheanacho has 58, but has not played for Nigeria since May 2025. Meanwhile, Ilenikhena has never even played for Nigeria before.

Although Chelle has not categorically said that these players are going to be called up for the September games, it is an indication that he is watching them, and there is a possibility that they will soon get invites if they keep their form up.
