The President and founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has criticised Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, over comments describing Nigeria as belonging to the Muslim community.
Jingir reportedly made the controversial remarks at a political gathering in Kano State earlier this month while explaining his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the January election.
The cleric reportedly argued that Muslims constituted the majority in Nigeria, suggesting that Christians were a minority in the country.
Reacting during a sermon captured in a video circulating online, Oyedepo challenged those who described Nigeria as an Islamic country to consider the size and reach of major Christian congregations nationwide.
The cleric specifically referenced some of Nigeria’s prominent Christian ministries, urging those who supported Jingir’s position to observe the number of worshippers attending their services.
“Watch Redemption Camp, Salvation Ministries, Dunamis and other ministries in Nigeria,” Oyedepo said.
He questioned the basis for describing Nigeria as an Islamic nation, asking, “And someone will stand and say Nigeria is an Islamic nation? Is he mad? Yes, he must be mad.”
The cleric also warned of developments he claimed would occur in Nigeria within the coming year.
“Now, watch, there shall be strange happenings between now and the next twelve months in Nigeria,” he stated.
