The Koro community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State came under heavy attack by suspected bandits on Sunday, with at least one fatality confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
While details remain sketchy, local sources who spoke with Sahara Reporters say the attackers struck in the early hours, sending residents fleeing for safety. The full extent of casualties is yet to be determined, and an official statement from the police or state government was still being awaited as of press time.
Koro, which shares a boundary with Egbe town in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, has raised concerns among residents in both states, especially in light of recent deadly attacks in neighbouring areas.
Residents have been advised to avoid the area and remain on high alert as the situation continues to unfold.
“There is palpable tension right now. People are not sure what’s happening, but the fear is spreading fast,” a local source told Sahara Reporters under condition of anonymity.
The attack comes barely a week after the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA of the same state were brutally assaulted by terrorists, believed to be linked to Boko Haram factions.
During the February 3–4 onslaught, over 162 residents were killed, more than 50 injured, and 38 kidnapped, according to local and security reports. Homes, farmlands, and public structures were set ablaze in a coordinated night raid that lasted hours.
