The political landscape of the Adamawa State House of Assembly is shifting rapidly following the resignation of seven lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within two days.
The latest wave saw six members formally announce their departure, days after Abubakar Abdullahi set the tone with his resignation on Monday, February 23.
Among those who stepped down from the PDP are the Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Buba Jidjiwa (Jada/Mbulo Constituency); Kefas Kalvin (Toungo); Bulus Geoffrey (Leko/Koma); Haruna Jilantikiri (Madagali); Kefas Emmanuel (Song); and Ahmed Jingi Bele (Maiha).
Their exits have intensified political speculation across the state, particularly amid rumours that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri may be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although none of the lawmakers has publicly declared their next political destination, political observers believe the APC is the likely beneficiary of the unfolding realignments.
The sudden spate of resignations has raised questions about party cohesion within the Assembly and could alter the balance of power ahead of future legislative and political contests in the state.
