BREAKING: The Battle for Plateau State Governorship Seat in the 2023 Elections

The Elections in Plateau State

The 2023 governorship election is currently being conducted in 28 out of 34 states across Nigeria with Plateau state inclusive. Plateau state has 17 LGAs: Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Bassa, Kanam, Barakin Ladi, Quai’an-Pam, Wase, Langtang North, Langtang South, Pankshin, Shendam, Riyom, Mikang, Kanke, Mangu and Bokkos.

The Contesting Political Parties

In Plateau, there are six political parties contesting to wrestle power in order to clinch the number one seat in the state. However, three political parties have been prominent since the campaign process with their respective candidates. They include Nentawe Yilwatda of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party and Patrick Dakum of the Labour Party.

The Prominent Candidates

Nentawe Yilwatda, the candidate of the APC, is the current Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly. He has promised to consolidate on the developmental strides of Governor Simon Lalong in the areas of agriculture, youth and women empowerment, education, health, and infrastructure if elected as the next governor of Plateau state.

Caleb Mutfwang, the governorship candidate of the PDP, was a former Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy in Plateau State. He has promised to revamp the educational, health, and agricultural sectors in the state, as well as tackle insecurity and youth unemployment if given the opportunity to serve.

Patrick Dakum, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, is a former Director-General of the National Institute for Medical Research. He has promised to provide the much-needed solution to the security problems in Plateau state, create job opportunities for the youths, and ensure social welfare for the citizens.

The Outcome of the Election

The electioneering process in Plateau State has been fierce and intense with all candidates investing heavily in their campaigns. The major political parties have been canvassing for votes and making promises of better governance to the people.

As at the time of writing, the results of the election are yet to be released. However, the people of Plateau State eagerly anticipate a free, fair, and peaceful electoral process that will produce a governor that will bring about development and progress to the state.
