MultiChoice has announced the next phase of its free seven-day DStv upgrade promotion in South Africa, with eligible Starter and Movies & Series subscribers set to enjoy access to higher-tier packages from October 26, 2026.
Under the promotion, customers subscribed to DStv Starter will be automatically upgraded to Select, while Movies & Series subscribers will gain access to DStv Premium for seven consecutive days at no additional cost.
The initiative is part of MultiChoice’s efforts to provide more value to subscribers by allowing them to experience channels and content available on higher-priced packages without paying extra.
The latest upgrades follow earlier phases of the promotion. DStv Select customers began receiving access to DStv Sport on September 29, while DStv Sport subscribers were upgraded to Premium from October 12 until October 19, 2026.
How to Qualify for the Free DStv Upgrade
MultiChoice said eligible subscribers would receive the upgrades automatically, meaning customers do not need to register, activate the offer or pay an additional fee.
However, subscribers must meet specific requirements to benefit from the promotion.
Customers must have an active DStv or DStv Stream month-to-month subscription, have maintained their subscription for at least one full month, and pay their monthly bills in full and on time.
According to the broadcaster, eligibility is determined by the subscription due date rather than the date a customer makes payment.
Eligible subscribers should see the additional channels become available within 24 to 48 hours of their subscription due date.
The promotion covers both customers using DStv decoders and those streaming through DStv Stream.
However, subscribers on quarterly or annual payment plans are excluded. Business accounts and customers on price-lock or subscription price-lock contracts are also ineligible.
MultiChoice Restructures DStv Subscription Packages
The free upgrade campaign follows MultiChoice’s restructuring of its DStv subscription packages on September 17, 2026.
The changes introduced new package names and options designed to serve sports fans and entertainment viewers while maintaining different subscription tiers.
DStv Sport replaced the former Compact package, with existing Compact subscribers automatically moved to the new offering. The package combines sports coverage, including football, cricket and rugby, with selected entertainment channels.
MultiChoice also introduced Movies & Series for customers who prefer films and television entertainment without a strong focus on sports.
DStv Family was replaced by Select at the same monthly subscription price. The updated package offers more than 100 channels, including 10 new additions for former Family subscribers.
Meanwhile, the former Access package was replaced by Starter, while the entry-level EasyView package remained unchanged. DStv Premium continues to be the company’s top-tier subscription offering.
MultiChoice chief executive Willington Ngwepe said the company would continue exploring ways to deliver greater value to subscribers, with the seven-day upgrade promotion forming part of that commitment.
DStv Introduces Five New Subscription Packages
The package restructuring represents a broader change to DStv’s subscription structure, pricing and branding in South Africa.
The revised lineup comprises five main packages: Starter, Select, Sport, Movies & Series, and Premium.
The changes are intended to provide customers with more clearly defined entertainment options, including a dedicated sports package and a separate offering focused on movies and television series.
The free upgrade campaign gives qualifying customers an opportunity to experience selected benefits of higher-tier packages for seven days before returning to their regular subscription package.
For Starter and Movies & Series subscribers, the next phase begins on October 26, 2026.
Eligible customers should ensure their subscriptions remain active and their monthly payments are made in full and on time to meet the promotion’s requirements.
