The senator, who studied Estate Management, said Soludo would have struggled to obtain a third-class degree if he had studied the same course.
According to Umeh, Estate Management is a difficult and multidisciplinary course that involves subjects such as architecture, engineering, surveying, accounting and law. He added that the last time a student graduated with a first-class degree in the department was in 1978.
Umeh also noted that Soludo studied Economics and graduated with a first-class degree, while Obi obtained a second-class lower degree.
The senator argued that academic results should not be used to undermine Obi, adding that Soludo appeared to be competing with the former Anambra governor over his achievements.
He further maintained that Obi would remain more popular than Soludo, both in Anambra State and across Nigeria, regardless of what the incumbent governor does.
In his words, “Myself, Soludo, Peter Obi, we were at the University of Nigeria from 1980 to 1984; all of us graduated the same day. Sometimes when you see people talk, they talk out of maybe pure envy. If he (Soludo) read my course, he would not even get third class. I read estate management.”
