BREAKING: AGF Lateef Fagbemi Leads FG Legal Team in Prosecution of Benue Killings Suspects

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbami, SAN, is leading the prosecution team in the trial of nine persons arraigned on Monday for their alleged involvement in the massacre of about 150 people in Yelwata, a town in Benue state.

The defendants, who were accused of killing over 150 people in the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue state on June 13, 2025, were arraigned by the Federal Government before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The arraignment of the suspects in the Benue killings came after a painstaking investigation and collaboration by government agencies.

The defendants were arraigned on a 57- count amended charge bordering on the killings in Yelwata in Benue state in June last year.

The defendants, Ado Mohammed Dono, Mohammed Saidu, Alh Haruna Abdullahi, Yakubu Adamu, Mohammed Musa, Abubakar Adamu, Shaibu Ibrahim, Saleh Mohammed and Bako Jibril pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the federal government.

In an earlier statement on Sunday, the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had assured Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise.
