BREAKING: Heavy Security in Yola as Police Deploy Tactical Teams Ahead of Bola Tinubu Visit

Security has been stepped up across Adamawa State ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s scheduled visit on Monday, with the state police command placing officers on high alert and deploying specialised units to strategic locations.

The President is expected in the state to commission key projects delivered by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, a visit that has drawn heightened security attention, particularly in Yola, the state capital.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the command had activated comprehensive security measures to forestall any breach before, during and after the visit.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has indeed been placed on high alert ahead of the president’s visit and has deployed its manpower and operational assets to all nooks and crannies of the state,” the statement said.

According to Nguroje, the Commissioner of Police, Dankwambo Morris, convened a strategic session with security commanders and senior officers to reassess and reinforce existing arrangements across the state.

As part of the renewed security architecture, the command has rolled out operational units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Surveillance Squad, and the Crowd and Traffic Control Unit. These teams have been mandated to conduct covert surveillance and maintain a visible presence in identified areas.

“In an effort to sustain public order, public safety and peace in the state before, during and after the visit, personnel have been deployed to identify flashpoints in Yola South and Yola North Local Government Areas,” the statement added.

The police said they are working closely with other security agencies to ensure a smooth, incident-free programme.

Among the measures outlined are enhanced surveillance operations and confidence-building patrols. Authorities also announced traffic restrictions in selected areas, with vehicular movement to be limited around event venues until commissioning and flag-off activities are concluded.

To further strengthen safety, anti-bomb squads have been deployed to sweep event grounds and adjoining roads.

The command appealed to residents of Adamawa State to cooperate with security personnel and remain vigilant throughout the presidential visit. Members of the public were urged to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police formation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit is expected to draw political leaders, government officials and supporters from across the state, with authorities keen to ensure the day unfolds without incident. See more
