Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. He died on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71, after a brief illness.
The Uduaghan family announced his death in a statement signed by Toju Andre Uduaghan on Monday, expressing profound grief over the loss of the former governor.
The statement, titled “Announcement of the Passing of His Excellency, Dr. Chief Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,” described the deceased as a beloved father, brother, uncle, patriarch and respected elder whose life and public service touched many people across Delta State and Nigeria.
The family said his passing had left them devastated, adding that he would be remembered for his contributions to the development of Delta State and the legacy he left behind.
According to the statement, Uduaghan served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the Delta State Government from 2003 to 2007 before becoming governor in 2007.
He served two terms as governor, leaving office in 2015 after eight years in the state’s top executive position.
During his years in public service, the family said, Uduaghan demonstrated a commitment to human and infrastructural development in Delta State.
The family described his death as a profound loss not only to them but also to the people of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
They expressed gratitude to God for his life, service and enduring legacy, while praying for divine comfort for relatives, friends, associates, former colleagues and others mourning his death.
The statement concluded with a tribute to the former governor, saying his memory would remain in the hearts of those who knew him and that his legacy would endure through the lives he touched.
“May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the family stated.
