Rochas Okorocha Released on Bail After Police Interrogation

Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator Rochas Okorocha has reportedly been released on bail by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) following an hour of interrogation over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

The police confirmed Okorocha’s release after his reported arrest at a hotel in Abuja. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, the former governor was questioned before being granted bail.

Iniedu disclosed the development in comments to Channels Television, adding that Okorocha had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further interrogation as investigations into the allegations continue.

The police spokesperson confirmed both the arrest and subsequent release, although the investigation into the allegations remains ongoing.

Why Police Arrested Rochas Okorocha

The reported arrest was linked to Okorocha’s alleged failure to honour previous police invitations in connection with the investigation.

Reports indicate that the former governor was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, the appointment was reportedly rescheduled to September 8 following a request from his lawyers.

Okorocha allegedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation, a development reportedly preceding his arrest in Abuja.

The police are investigating allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. Further questioning is expected as investigators seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

Okorocha Previously Denied Claims of Court-Ordered Arrest

Before his reported arrest, Okorocha had denied claims that a court order had been issued for his arrest over allegations involving criminal conspiracy, forgery and the use of false documents.

The former governor made his position known in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo.

In the statement, Okorocha also accused the Imo State Government of being behind what he described as fake news concerning the purported court order.

He challenged those responsible for the report to produce the alleged court order within 48 hours or retract the claim, threatening further legal action if they failed to comply.

Police Investigation Continues

Despite his release on bail, Okorocha is expected to return to the police headquarters for further interrogation, according to the police spokesperson.

His release does not signify the conclusion of the investigation, as the police continue to examine the allegations against him.

The development comes amid public attention surrounding the former governor’s denial of claims about a court-ordered arrest and his accusations against the Imo State Government.

Further details about the investigation and any subsequent police action are expected as the matter unfolds.

Note: The allegations against Okorocha remain allegations, and no finding of guilt is established by the reported arrest or investigation.
