The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has reacted to the ongoing political disagreement between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development comes amid tensions over Wike’s proposed Rainbow Coalition, which APC governors have reportedly rejected, arguing that the coalition’s plan to field candidates across several states could conflict with their political interests and objectives.
Wike, however, has maintained that the coalition is primarily focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid while allowing members to work with politicians from different political parties during other elections. He has also stated that he did not approach the APC Governors’ Forum to seek an alliance.
Reacting to the development in a video shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Kalu described the confrontation between Wike and the APC governors as unnecessary.
The former Abia State governor urged politicians involved in the disagreement to shift their attention towards issues affecting Nigerians and the development of the country.
According to Kalu, political differences should not distract leaders from addressing the economic and infrastructural challenges facing Nigerians.
“I’m surprised that Wike is fighting with APC governors. It’s not necessary. What is necessary today is to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians and move the country forward.
“We should go back to production and stabilise our electricity,” Kalu said.
The senator’s comments come as political discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with different political actors and groups positioning themselves for the elections.
Kalu’s intervention highlights calls for political leaders to prioritise economic development, electricity stability, increased production and measures aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
