After Obasanjo Defeated Falae In 1999, I Said Obasanjo Is Not My President- Oloye Akin Alabi

APC chieftain, Oloye Akin Alabi has recounted how he refused to accept former president Olusegun Obasanjo as his president when the former president defeated Falae in the 1999 general elections. He said this while reacting to a statement released on Twitter by Demola Olarewaju, an aide to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Recall that during a webinar on Saturday as reported by Punch, Pastor Tunde Bakare said he will never address Bola Tinubu as his president. He said before the whole mess regarding Tinubu’s emergence is cleared off, he would only address him as president of Nigeria but, won’t address him as his own president.

However, while addressing this, Atiku’s aide said Tunde Bakare’s position that Bola Tinubu may be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but not “My President” is entirely valid to him and it is a position he is mentally willing to adopt. He said it takes far more than winning elections to become the deeply personal “My President”.

However, while reacting to what Olarewaju posted on Twitter, Akin Alabi in a post released on his Twitter handle, recounted how he said he would never address Obasanjo as his president due to the disappointment he felt when Falae was defeated by him in the 1999 election. He said he adopted the same mentality that Demola Olarewaju intends to adopt but, at the end of the day, it did not do him any good.

“In 1999, after I was disappointed that Obasanjo defeated Falae, I adopted the same mentality. Obasanjo is not my president! I suffered for 8 years.” He wrote.
