Army Troops Finally Kill Dogo Gide Days After Declaring Him Wanted Alongside Simon Ekpa

The infamous bandit leader, Dogo Gide, who was causing a lot of terror in the North, is dead.

His death comes a few days after the Nigerian Defense Headquarters declared him wanted for terrorism activities alongside Simon Ekpa, the factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

Dogo’s reign of terror finally came to an end as a result of gunshot injuries he sustained during a clash with army troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD).

The encounter took place in the challenging landscape of Madada forest within the Maru local government area on March 12, 2024.

Despite suffering serious injuries, Dogo Gide was said to have been covertly taken to a hospital in Mabera, Sokoto, Sokoto State, where he eventually passed away.

It was gathered Dogo Gide was laid to rest in Dandalla Village on March 24.

Dogo Gide has a history of involvement with ANSARU and other significant terrorist organizations. He has been linked to serious crimes including the shooting down of a military helicopter in the Dansadau-Birmin Gwari region and the kidnapping of students from Federal Government College Yauri.

Reacting to his death, Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari said: “Woke up to the good news that Dogo Gide, has finally kicked the bucket. The notorious bandits leader died from gunshot wounds sustained during a confrontation with Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) forces.

Last week, in a renewed bid to rein in terrorists across the country, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had released pictures of Gide alongside 96 terrorists and armed bandits declared wanted in the country, promising that their banner will also be displayed across the country.

This came as the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri on Friday rescued 78 persons, comprising 35 women and 43 children held hostage by the terrorists in Borno State.

The military high command, in a war update issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO) Maj Gen Edward Buba, said the wanted persons include terrorists, insurgents, and armed bandits among others, who are behind violent crimes in the country.

A total of 43 persons were declared wanted in the North-west zone ravaged by banditry. They are Alhaji Shingi, Malindi Yakubu, Boka, Dogo Gide, Halilu Sububu, Ado Aliero, Bello Turji, Dan Bokkolo, Labi Yadi, Nagala, Saidu Idris, Kachalla Rugga and Sani Gurgu.

In the North-east where terror groups, Boko Haram and Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists operate, 33 persons were declared wanted.

They include: Abu Zaida, Modu Sulum, Baba Data, Ahmad, Sani Teacher, Baa Sadiq, Abdul Saad, Kaka Abij Mohammad Khalifa, Umar Tella, Abu Mutahid, Mallam Mohammad, Mallam Tahiru Baga, Uzaiya and Ali Ngule.
